I am really looking forward to Junior Tennis at Storrington in 2008 and hope to help make it even more successful than it was last year. In addition to all the events planned and squad sessions taking place, we now have a thriving Mini- Tennis section at the club and I would like to welcome all of these Mini- Members on board.

It has been good to see Wednesday evenings so well supported all through the winter months. After half term it would be great to see even more members coming down to these club times as it is a great way to practise and play with different juniors.

It is perhaps time for some of you to change the day that you attend. Although the age range is a guide and ability has to be considered, I would like to keep Wednesday afternoons for the beginners and for some of the more experienced of you to now move to a Friday. Also, Friday night players could start to come down on Mondays, which are very quiet at the moment. Below are the suggested age guidelines Ц Caroline will soon be hosting both Wednesday and Friday evenings.

Last year I was overwhelmed with the support parents gave me, especially during the summer tournament. I find it difficult to attend every Junior club session and will be putting up rotas for help to serve refreshments. PLEASE, if you can, put your name down - just once a term would help.

This year we have entered both a girls and a boys under 14 tournament and details will be provided shortly. Look at the notice board for a sign up sheet.

Nigel has entered the club into several junior leagues, including Junior National Club league. He will be assisting with arrangements and the selection of players for the matches. For Juniors to represent the club they must have an LTA rating.

If you play at a football club or for a rugby or cricket team you wear the correct kit. This is not compulsory at the tennis club, however, it is important that our Junior members wear appropriate tennis wear and correct tennis trainers. Lucinda Woodage (01903 893143) will continue to sell club kit to those who are interested. Last year, when representing the club in matches it was a pleasure to see our players looking so smart and uniformed.

All members are issued with a shoe tag and these must be available to be shown to Committee members on request. We have over 100 juniors and the shoe tag avoids embarrassment of having to be asked if you are a member.

The events held last year were so successful that two dates have been officially scheduled for 2008. Also, one of our past members, Mrs Betty Watson has very generously offered to donate a trophy specifically for this tournament.

There is a sign up sheet on the board for those who wish to take part in these inter club leagues. This is open to all Junior Members and they are encouraged take part. It can be seen from the summer tournament that everyone enjoys the competitive nature of the game and this is an opportunity for each individual to show how much they are improving. All players must be members of British Tennis and have an LTA rating.
